Essential Duties and Responsibilities



The Controller is responsible for preparing various financial reports, performing detailed costs analysis, and improving accounting processes within the company


Key Responsibilities:


Monthly Budgeting & Finance Activities
 

  • Prepare and provide input to managers and executives on annual budget
  • Lead the monthly and annual accounting closing activities and reporting to parent company
  • Lead regular cost review meetings to update managers and executives on trends, opportunities and needs
  • Coach managers on the financial aspects of decisions




Financial Analysis & Compliance
 

  • Analyze and interpret operating results and recommend actions to improve financial performance
  • Analyze and communicate financial and non-financial performance on a continuing basis
  • Ensure the integrity of and accurate valuation of the company’s assets
  • Ensure plant conformance to corporate property accounting policies and procedures
  • Prepare year end files and liaise with external and internal auditors
  • Maintain internal control documentation for corporate certification
  • Maintain strong financial control environment following corporate policies & procedures
  • Identify control weaknesses and implement new controls/procedures where required



Business Improvement
 

  • Develop and maintain non-financial measures in the manufacturing performance measurement system
  • Prepare and coordinate special studies on improvement opportunities, capital appropriations, etc.
  • Generate or quantify cost savings opportunities and support the manager and executive team in the implementation cost reduction initiatives
  • Assist with the capital process including review of capital project requests, identifying obsolescence and project expenses, preparing financial
  • Participate in project analysis and RFP responses
  • Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures



Supervisory Responsibilities:


The Controller has the following direct reports:
 

  • Assistant Controller
  • Accountant
  • General Accountant
  • Financial Analyst



The Controller is responsible for providing mentorship to his/her direct reports, as well as conducting performance management, and approving any vacation requests and/or expenses.

You will have the following responsibilities in order to comply with the company's Occupational Health and Safety program:


The Controller has the following direct reports:
 

  • Providing a safe and healthy workplace including the necessary equipment, systems, and tools which are properly maintained
  • Providing information, training, instruction and supervision to protect the Occupational Health and Safety of Employees
  • Ensuring Employees under their direction know and comply with Occupational Health and Safety requirements
  • Ensuring Employees under their direction receive adequate supervision
  • Establishing, supporting, and consulting with Occupational Health and Safety committees and Workplace Occupational Health and Safety representatives on all matters to improve workplace Occupational Health and Safety including regular safety inspections of the workplace

Compétences

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor degree Commerce, specialized in Accounting
  • Professional Accounting Designation preferred
  • 6 to 10 years of experience
  • Demonstrated success with process improvement and integration
  • MS-Office (Excel and Word)
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong written and oral communications
  • Experience managing a team
  • Travel may be required for the position
  • Ability to perform all work in support of our Corporate Values of Safety, Teamwork, Focus, Innovation and Integrity
  • Demonstrates strong and visible support of our values
  • Travel is occasionally required
  • Position requires Level II Clearance with the Canadian Government and the ability to gain access to the Canadian Controlled Goods Program
