We are currently looking to recruit a Platform Convergence & Innovation Lead

Location – Derby

Role:

A critical activity of the Platform Team is to ensure that there is a defined strategy for the Convergence of Building Blocks across the Product Families within the Platform Portfolio. This is defined by the Platform Convergence and Innovation Leads, using a multifunctional approach. The identification, implementation and convergence of specific, allocated Building Blocks across Product Families and for new Product Families is the responsibility and accountability of the Convergence and Innovation Lead with the technical support of the Chief Engineer, Platforms and the program governance of the Platform Performance Lead. This is a Global role, with a need for frequent travel.

Key Responsibilities and Challenges:

Functional duties to the Platform Core Team

- In line with Platform and Product Family strategies, agree with the Platform Chief Engineer, Cost & target Setting Lead, and Performance Manger the necessary support from them to drive the Building Block Convergence Strategy.

- Responsible under the Technical guidance of the Platform Chief Engineer for Building Block selection in upcoming opportunities (bids) and new opportunities, Platform developments.

- Identify Innovation needs to bridge gaps in Key Value Parameters for the Platform by identifying, allocating and then managing the development and innovation activities across the Product Families aligned with Product Family Chief Engineers.

- Drive convergence with the Product Family Chief Engineers for the development and documentation of Standard Building Blocks to Maintain the Platform Building Block library/ Catalogue at a Platform level and also with Global Product Management.

- Report on technical feasibility and Technology Readiness Level (TRL) assessment on KVPs and proposed Building Blocks in bids (including performance) presenting to PFs, Product Management Community and BTLT as required as delegate for the Chief Engineer and Head of the Product Family.

- Identify and input key Market and Technology trends to the Platform Strategy Lead and Chief Engineer then support the analyse of those Market and Technology trends vs Platform Building Block library to identify Platform library gaps.

- Align Building Block needs and identify required innovations for future opportunities with the Product Family Senior engineers.

- Drive the requirements of standard Building Block with key stakeholders including, but not limited to RoQ, Procurement, Services, Operations and sub-systems Engineers within the Product Engine.

- Maintain the Platform Building Block library – Catalog, for allocated Building Blocks.

Leadership duties within the Platform Core Team

- Lead the screening of Building Block solutions for allocated Building Blocks for each new opportunity working directly with the Product Family Teams using the KVP/KPL process.

- Participate in Product Book reviews on behalf of the Platform Team, supporting the Chief Engineer, to ensure allocated Building Blocks and Innovations are being adhered to at the request of the Platform Performance Lead.

- Execute the delegated authority of the Head of Platform and the Platform Chief Engineer with the Platform Teams in Gate Reviews from G-3 to G6 as required by the Platform Performance Lead.

- Lead the Innovation Pipeline for allocated Platform Building Blocks working with the Lead Building Block Engineers operating under the governance of Global Product Management.

Specific responsibilities & Leadership duties

- Lead the multifunctional Platform Building Block Convergence & Innovation with internal stakeholders to ensure performance against the above objectives for allocated Building Blocks.

- Establish and present to Global Product Management the requirements for future Building Block standardisation and development.

- Assure the platform Chief Engineer of the strategic alignment from a Platform perspective on approving or rejecting P-Dev proposals for the allocated Building Blocks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or higher degree in engineering, or, equivalent experience.

• Strong experience in Engineering/ Product Leadership, preferably in rai industry, or equivalent.

• Excellent knowledge of/ or certification in Product Management practices

• Market and competitor knowledge of the relevant platform scope

• International experience, or willingness to work internationally

• Excellent knowledge and experience from a Vehicle Engineering or Engineering Sub-systems perspective of current and emerging technologies.

• Experience of programme management and cost.

• Strong Project Management, and influencing skills are essential, together with the ability to communicate effectively with senior managers across the spectrum of stakeholders.
